Pray: Book of Common Prayer, Collect for Third Sunday of Epiphany
Give us grace, O Lord, to answer readily the call of our Savior Jesus Christ and proclaim to all people the Good News of his salvation, that we and the whole world may perceive the glory of his marvelous works; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Do: What is your cultural footprint? How does your weekly schedule proclaim the Gospel of the kingdom?
It’s embarrassingly easy to make cultural decisions (gestures) motivated by individual lifestyle preferences rather than by our call to steward the kingdom of Jesus. Left unchecked, we begin to live as if culture is a list of options like picking our favorite restaurant, rather than a calling to live like Jesus in the specific place and time—the culture—in which he’s placed us.
This week practice prayerful attention as you come and go throughout your days. Consider praying the Lord's Prayer or a favorite Scripture as you each place you physically or virtually visit - grocery stores, carpool lanes, office cubicles, walking the dog, doctor's appointments, and traffic jams.
What does it mean, God, for your kingdom to come and your will to be done here as it is in heaven?
