Easter Thursday: Live Eternity In Time

Happy Resurrection Day, friends! May you know new life, peace, and hope today, tomorrow, and forever. Easter Sunday kicks off a week in the liturgical calendar known as the Easter Octave and a seven-week festival called Eastertide or The Great Fifty Days. I'll be posting little bits of beauty each day of the Easter Octave and each Sunday following that.

Read all the way to the end of the post for a way you can help us practice resurrection!

Live Eternity In Time

“The practice of resurrection is not an attack on the world of death; it is a nonviolent embrace of life in the country of death. It is an open invitation to live eternity in time.”

-Eugene Peterson, Practice Resurrection

Watch:  Formed, Laity Lodge

"For more than three decades, Grimes’ modest coffee mugs have been a warming, earthy touchstone symbolizing all that’s experienced at Laity Lodge. Rows and rows of the glazed, ceramic pottery have stood sentinel—breakfast, lunch, and dinner—as women and men have made their way into the Dining Hall. Coffee is poured. Conversation ensues. Communion-ware with the same blue-brown-cream glaze serves guests on Sundays in the Great Hall."

Read:  Psalm 146, 147; Exodus 13:3-10; 1 Corinthians 15:41-50; Matthew 28:16-20

Pray: Collect for Wednesday of Easter Week

O God, whose blessed Son made himself known to his disciples in the breaking of bread: Open the eyes of our faith, that we may behold him in the fullness of his redeeming work; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Do: Send me a photo and caption of yourself practicing resurrection. Here's one from patron Kelly Rowley.

The first picture is of Gabriel sleeping on me. This was a rare moment as he hasn’t been taking naps lately, so I decided to turn on scripture lullabies and rock him. It was so special to enjoy God’s presence while snuggling this little man that is growing so fast. The second picture is of painting with the older boys. Painting has a way of slowing us down physically and mentally and it sure did that yesterday.

I'm excited to offer you a brand new resource I've created along with Brian and our Children's Ministry Director, Amy Willers: Eastertide 2020: A guidebook to help us practice resurrection together. While we created this for our church family, I'm extending the invitation to the Sacramental Life Patreon community as well. You can print out the pdf or use it digitally. There are several prompts for sharing photos that you can send to me at tamara@tamarahillmurphy.com

The guidebook is a helpful, shelter-in-place supplement to our regular Eastertide list: 50 ways to Practice Resurrection during the 50 days of Eastertide!

Choose 1 idea or 50, but whatever you do, do it with gusto!  (and send me a photo)

I look forward to hearing from you!
